Books On Shirts®Kids was founded in 2009 by two retirees and their three grown children. The Company arose out of the desire to create a product that conveys the joy and inspiration that classic children’s books have to offer, and at the same time to be an environmentally friendly and socially responsible business. The founders of Books On Shirts®Kids believe that the wisdom of classic children’s books has great relevancy in today's world. Books On Shirts®Kids aims to communicate and preserve for the next generation the timeless wisdom that classic literature has to offer.
As mentioned above, Books On Shirts®Kids is an environmentally friendly company. We are a company that firmly believes that a wearable product produced for children should not only be eco-friendly, but free of any harmful components. As a result, in every aspect of our business, from the growing of the cotton used to make the garments to the packaging used to ship them, every step is taken to ensure that our garments have as little negative impact as possible upon the environment, upon the health of the consumer and on the health of the people who make the garments. We want people to feel good about purchasing and wearing our shirts, and we are committed to taking the necessary steps to ensure that we continue being a sustainable business that protects the environment, the worker, and above all, the end user, the consumer (In this case, the child). We take pride in all our products being:
- Made from 100% organic cotton
- Dyed using non-toxic, low-impact dyes
- Printed with PVC-free, phthalate-free water-based inks
- Affixed with unbleached organic cotton labels
- Attached with hang tags made from non bleached post consumer waste recycled paper
- Packaging made from earth-friendly, recycled material
We at Books On Shirts®Kids take great satisfaction in our line of children t-shirts and baby one-pieces. We are proud that we created a product that is “Made In U.S.A.”, especially in a time when the issue of keeping jobs domestic is such an important one for the United States. We are also proud that Books On Shirts®Kids is protective of the environment by offering a 100% non-toxic children’s garment. Finally, we are proud to offer a product that creates inspiration and delight for those who purchase it.
All of our shirts are made in the U.S.A. Our suppliers and manufacturers are also located in the U.S.A. We support local industry and well-paying jobs for our country's workers and are strongly opposed to the exploitation to which so many apparel industry workers around the world are routinely subjected. We do not object to the importing of manufactured goods into the USA per se, particularly if environmental and labor standards are high. However, the United States imports such a large majority of its manufactured goods that this has undermined our collective economic well-being. Thus, we feel it is imperative to manufacture as much as possible domestically.
Books On Shirts® is a small-scale operation. We know that we and other small clothing companies like us cannot single-handedly transform the clothing industry, but we do believe we can contribute positively to a growing movement that is taking things in the right direction. While our t-shirts are more expensive than most, they do not cost the planet nor its inhabitants nearly as much as a conventionally produced t-shirt. In our view, it is better to own a few quality garments that last than many cheaply made, disposable garments.
